A Victorian Burr Walnut Oval Tilt Top Breakfast Table.

Circa 1880, The first thing that you notice with this particular Oval Victorian Table are the beautiful highly figured burr walnut quarter veneers that have been used for the top, and the large central marquetry panel, the foliate marquetry is again repeated at intervals around the circumference of the table. The table has attractive carving to its exterior and the whole is supported on a carved walnut base consisting of four pillars above the attractively carved legs, the table retains its original castors. The tilting mechanism on the table works well and the table looks as impressive in the vertical as it does in the horizontal..Will seat 6 people.

Circa 1835, a truely superb WM1V Extending Dining Table In The Manner Of Gillows of Lancaster.

The quality of this 14/16 seater dining table is really excellent, measuring a generous 12'6" long and 4'6" wide it features four removable leaves, each with a fine thumb mould. The frame itself, a vitally important part of any extending tables integrity is as true today as it was when constructed, made entirely of ash instead of the usual beech a sure sign of the quality of this beautiful table.
The decorative frieze to either end, above the legs, is repeated at its extremity, very unusual but indicative of true craftmanship and another sign of the excellence of this piece.
The whole is supported on fine turned and lobed supports, the caster are original and have been removed and serviced, whilst doing so it was again note the superior construction of these also.
All in all a fine as well as grand example of dining at its best.

The top is a lovely warm original colour, the twin pillars with attractive turned stems. the whole supported on outswept legs finished off with cast brass lion paw castors. This table extends by use of a handle to take two extra leafs and when fully extended seats 10/12 comfortably. Having been recently overhauled in our workshops the winding mechanism runs smoothly and the leg joints have all been checked. Finally, the top has been professionally French polished using traditional methods giving a deep dark finish.
