George
III Architects Table (Circa 1740)
This Architects Table is a
particularly fine example of its time being early 18th Century, heyday of walnut,
featuring a red walnut base with turned fruit wood legs behind "shield"
frontis sections. Above the "double action" ratcheted top allows the
user to sit or stand.
Another wonderful feature being the front legs ability
to pull forward and reveal a writing desk which lifts or slides to reveal deep
compartments including a further hidden small drawer and a pin hinged quadrant
ink well. Finally a pair of turned brass candle stands which retract flush to
the body add to the stunning looks of this item. the whole standing on original
leather casters.
A magnificent piece!
