Circa 1885 Bechstein Grand Piano in Rosewood Case.

Circa 1885 (serial number 13247), this stunning Bechstein Grand Piano has a Rosewood case and stands on hexagonal tapering legs and brass casters, with an especially pretty fretted music stand. As would be expected from a piano of this calibre internally the piano has an iron framed, is overstrung, and in concert pitch. There are 88 notes ( the keys being ivory) and the piano has a roller action which means that it responds well to changes in touch. This piano has the characteristic " Bechstein sound" having been described by many be as " clean and thin in the treble" with a strong bass, some describe it as being "velvety" The paino measures over 6 feet and this means that the strings are long enough to produce a good depth of sound ..Bechstein wanted to create a piano that could withstand the ferocity of players such as Lizst whose method of playing would almost invariably ensure that strings broke during his concert. The end result was a piano that had the reputation of being matched by very few pianos in quality of construction and tone.
A quality piano in good condition..
