to 1895 to 1898 serial number 77850
This Grand Piano by the highly
regarded piano makers Erard of Paris is a truly beautiful piano and was supplied
by Harrods of London (serial number 41097) ..Having an iron frame it is straight
strung with all hammers and felts in good condition, the soundboard is in excellent
order with no cracks or splits, lined in stunning golden birds eye maple the interior
is almost as beautiful as the exterior...Having 3 hinges instead of the normal
2 the lid is supported well which allows the piano to be played as it was meant
with vigour...Erard pianos were a favourite of Liszt whose playing was fast and
furious he favoured Erard pianos for his concerts as they could withstand the
sort of playing that he was notorious for. Mendelssohn was also known to have
owned an Erard. In the late 1800s Erard produced arguably the most sophisticated
concert grand which was capable of considerable power and magnificent clarity..Although
this piano is not overstrung it certainly is not to the detriment of this wonderful
instrument which is an absolute joy to play...The Rosewood exterior is supported
on elegantly fluted legs with large brass casters. The pierced foliate fret work
music stand is flanked by sliding fret work candlestands. 85 notes in total,
50 ivory ranging from Bottom A to Top A and 35 ebony gives a good full range,
this piano is a joy to play with lots of scope for virtuoso playing..
The case is in beautiful condition having recently been traditionally French polished
in our workshops.
