Victorian mahogany adjustable double reading stand

Circa mid 19th Century a desireable and rare example of a Victorian adjustable double reading stand. This wonderful piece comprises of a 4 splay platform base veneered in flame mahogany suporting a turned central column which in turn houses a brass ratchet mechanism allowing the writing slopes to rise and fall between seating and standing position. The desk area also slides to one side allowing someone to sit with their knees under the overhang. What makes this a particularly good example is that it features a 2 sided top comprising of a pair of adjustable book rests. The whole lovely original colour and patination, the whole raised on finely turned bun feet.

Ideal for use either with musical instruments or can be used for reading, desk work, large enough to take a lap top.

A wonderful piece of very cleverly designed antique furniture.
