AN EDWARDIAN MAHOGANY SECRETAIRE BOOKCASE

Circa 1900, this beautiful antique secretaire bookcase is a lovely deep rich flame mahogany with satinwood inlay to the cornice, the doors and the top surface. The top section consisting of a pair of astragal glazed doors with original bevelled glass and strip of decorative brass, opening to reveal fully adjustable mahogany faced with line inlay shelves which are sturdy enough to take the heaviest of books. The glazed section sits neatly on the secretaire section below, which consists of a pair of mahogany flamed doors with crossbanding to each door, behind which is a deep shelf, which provides a massive amount of extra storage. The secretaire fall, with its wonderful flame mahogany front, has 2 pretty decorative brass handles, now fully buffed, and is provided with a fully working lock and key. The drawer opens to reveal a fully fitted interior with pigeon holes all with chequered line inlay, and small inlaid drawers with beautiful brass handles. The leather skive has been replaced with a new deep burgandy and gilt tooled leather skive making this ready for another 100 years of use.

All runners and locks checked and provided in showroom condition this is a beautiful example and one that will give years of pleasure.
