John Broadwood were major piano manufacturers in Britain in the 19th Century and early part of the 20th Century and were extremely highly regarded as such, they were responsible for many new an innovative ideas used in grand piano construction. They patented designs for actions and the strung back, and were among the first piano manufacturers to introduce steel bars and metal hitch plates to pianos, this was a radical improvement to the early wooden frames used as it ensured that the piano could hold its tune better and the tuning pins were not just situated into a wooden frame. Broadwood improved greatly the English grand action which meant that rapid repitition of notes became possible. Broadwood pianos were supplied to many royal family memebers over the years and several prominent composers used Broadwoods for their compositions such as Lizst and Chopin.

This boudoir grand piano stands on lovely turned legs with large casters, the lid is highly figured rosewood, a nice piece of history with this piano are the small night light marks that can just about be made out on the lid, these would have happened when the lady of the house was playing the piano by candle light, before electricity was available. The piano internally and externally is in lovely condition, the felts and hammers having all been replaced recently, the case is also in good condition having been traditionally French polished giving it a wonderful depth of shine. This piano will suit musicians of all abilities and is a real delight to play.
