Circa 1845, a Secretaire Abattant, possibly German. An impressive piece, being veneered in superb "flame" mahogany. Raised on block feet, it comprises four capacious drawers, plus the secretaire "fall" featuring a large figured mahogany panel which folds down (counterweight) to reveal a truly excellent fitted interior.
A central bowfronted cupboard door (locking) flanked by small turned pilasters lies between two banks of 3 drawers, each beautifully made, whilst above is a long drawer of the same quality. Beneath the bank of drawers lies an open recess flanked by a pair of well disguised secret pen drawers. Finally, a pair of excellent turned pillars with beautiful acanthus carved detailing finishes this stunning and elegant piece. Fully restored in beautiful condition.
